Indivisibles,

As of today, [ [link removed] ]it’s been 264 days since Congress passed the CARES Act.
That’s 264 days that millions of Americans have been left to fend for
themselves while Mitch McConnell plays politics with their lives.

We’re all anxiously awaiting the next round of COVID-19 relief -- but
there’s more we can do in the meantime. Join our national call-in day
tomorrow, December 15, to tell your member of Congress to pass meaningful
COVID-19 relief that prioritizes the American people, not corporations:

[ [link removed] ]Call-in day for Covid-19 relief

Before you make calls to your member of Congress, here’s an update on the
current state of negotiations:

Last week, the House passed a resolution to avoid a shutdown by funding
the government until midnight on December 18. This is important because
any COVID-19 relief package will be attached to the government funding
bill -- two birds, one stone. [ [link removed] ]A bipartisan group of senators called the
“908 Coalition” has been negotiating the terms of a $908B COVID-19 relief
package and is set to release the text of their proposal this evening.
We’re still waiting to see what makes it into the agreement, but there are
a few provisions we’re paying close attention to -- relief checks, boosted
unemployment insurance, and corporate immunity. We know Americans
desperately need both relief checks AND unemployment insurance (really,
the bare minimum), but Mitch McConnell has been advocating most strongly
for his corporate donors. No surprises there.

Whichever way McConnell spins it, corporate immunity stands in direct
contrast with keeping Americans safe. For more details on what Pelosi
called “an assault on American workers,” [ [link removed] ]read our resource on how
corporate immunity makes workers more vulnerable and protects large
corporations.

We hope you’ll join us for our call-in day tomorrow to demand your
senators pass a meaningful COVID-19 relief bill.

With that, here are your weekly to-dos:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

 Your weekly to-dos

 1. [ [link removed] ]TOMORROW: Call your senators to demand they pass a meaningful
COVID-19 relief bill. While we wait for Congress to iron out their
plan to fund the government and pass a COVID-19 relief package, it's
up to us to make our priorities heard. Join us tomorrow to call your
senators to make sure the next relief bill meets the moment to
prioritize Americans, not McConnell’s corporate donors. Then keep
calling all week.
 2. [ [link removed] ]Review this list of actions you can take to impact the results of
the Georgia runoffs. Today kicks off early voting in Georgia, so it’s
more crucial than ever for us to ensure that voters are prepared and
informed. Whether it's writing letters or making calls (in English or
Spanish!), there are plenty of opportunities to reach voters in the
next few weeks. Can’t volunteer but still want to make an impact?
[ [link removed] ]Donate to support our plans in Georgia and all our work.
 3. [ [link removed] ]Record a video demanding your members of Congress pass COVID relief
NOW. We want to hear from you -- submit a video addressing your
members of Congress and telling them why relief can't wait. Please
feel free to share how COVID-19 has impacted you and your community,
and what a relief bill would mean to you.
 4. [ [link removed] ]Read and share this summary of our priorities for the final weeks
of 2020. We’ve got plans for this transition period between now and
Inauguration Day -- including helping Democrats regain full control of
both chambers of Congress. We know we’re keeping control of the House,
but we won’t know the Senate’s makeup until after the Georgia runoff
elections in January 2021. There’s a lot of uncertainty right now, but
we’ve got lots of goals to finish the year strong.
 5. [ [link removed] ]Learn about how a progressive voting bloc in Congress can equal
big wins. Progressives hold a significant portion of the total
Democratic seats in the House, including some exciting progressive
freshman. In order to pass legislation, Democratic leadership needs
the support of as many of their members as possible and can only
afford to lose a few members. One important way House progressives can
grow and use their power is through a voting bloc -- by executing a
voting bloc strategically, they can force leadership to listen to
their demands and win key victories.

 2020 Update

[ [link removed] ]The Electoral College is meeting today to formally elect Joe Biden to
be the 46th President of the United States.

The meeting of the Electoral College is typically an unremarkable
administrative event but because of Trump’s incessant protests to “stop
the steal,” this cycle’s meeting has drawn national attention. Some
states, especially Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and
Wisconsin, are concerned their ceremonies will be disrupted by Trump
supporters trafficking in anti-democracy conspiracy theories. Efforts to
disrupt and, ultimately, invalidate electoral votes is a deliberate
attempt to subvert the will of the people and disenfranchise millions;
though unlikely to happen, it’s a dark day in American democracy when 40%
of voters ignore basic, confirmed facts of the election.

Electors will all be meeting in-person in their home states over the
course of the day -- each state, not the federal government, sets its own
process to govern the meeting of the electors, so there’s a lot of
variability in when and where electors will meet. Should no shenanigans
occur, Joe Biden will collect the majority of electoral votes later this
afternoon, all but sealing his fate to be the next person behind the
Resolute Desk.

Georgia Runoffs: only three weeks left

With just three weeks until the Georgia runoff elections, we’re hard at
work rolling out our plans. Between our ads program, direct voter contact
work, rural and Latinx outreach, and support to partners and Indivisible
groups in Georgia, we’re committing a ton of time and resources to winning
and entering 2021 in a strong position. [ [link removed] ]We need your help to make it
all possible: donate to support our plans in Georgia and all our work.

 Happy Birthday to our movement!

We can’t believe we’re saying this but today is Indivisible’s 4th
birthday! [ [link removed] ]Check out this video to recap some of our biggest wins:

Four years ago today, our co-founder Ezra tweeted out “A Practical Guide
for Resisting the Trump Agenda” amid nationwide anxiety and despair.
Things haven’t gotten easier since 2016 but even as we battle a pandemic,
you’ve given us reason to remain hopeful. Four years later, we defeated
Trump. We kept the House and are in the fight of our lives to take the
Senate. We won big national victories and made powerful change at the
local level. We owe those wins to the millions of ordinary people, like
you, who decided to do their part for our democracy.

Indivisibles, today, we celebrate you.

In solidarity,
Indivisible Team
