Friends,
A few days ago, we sent out a petition asking our supporters to demand Congress pass another COVID-19 relief bill. Since then, the need for more stimulus has only grown more urgent. For instance, a recent report showed that millions of Americans owe nearly $6,000 in back-rent that will come due after the holidays -- unless Congress takes action.
Meanwhile, our elected leaders are playing games. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell proposed no additional funding for state and local governments, despite the fact that this would lead to further layoffs. Trump Treasury Secretary Mnuchin suggested sending Americans one-time direct payments (of just $600!) in lieu of unemployment benefits.
A single payment of $600 wouldn’t even cover half of a rent or mortgage payment for the average family -- and there are millions of families across the country facing eviction as a result of the economic crisis. There’s no other way to put it, friend: Congress needs to get its act together and pass a substantial COVID relief bill. IMMEDIATELY. Sign our petition today if you agree.

Subject: This is no time for our leaders to put their feet up
Friends --
Even with a vaccine on the way, our nation could be facing a long, dark winter. The virus is spiking in almost every state, and millions of Americans are struggling to pay rent, buy groceries, or afford high-quality health care during a deadly pandemic.
Even though Donald Trump threw in the towel on COVID-19 response, Congress shouldn’t. They may be in a lame-duck session, but that doesn’t mean they’re allowed to lean back, put their feet up, and take a long vacation until President-elect Joe Biden and incoming members of Congress and Senate are sworn into office.
Mitch McConnell allowed the Senate to adjourn ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday, meaning Senators were able to skip town while struggling Americans went another week without aid. But the Senate has now reconvened -- and they must get to work on passing a new stimulus package IMMEDIATELY.
Congress must pass a new COVID-19 relief bill.
Immediately.

A one-time stimulus check of $1,200 was never going to be enough. It was never going to last through the ongoing pandemic. And extra unemployment benefits must be FULLY extended.
Congress has more work to do. Add your name if you agree.
