A worker dies every 30 seconds from exposure to toxic industrial chemicals, pesticides, dust, and radiation.

Friend,

The apparel industry uses 43 MILLION tons of chemicals every year. What’s the human impact look like? Every 30 seconds a worker dies from exposure to toxic industrial chemicals, pesticides, and other hazardous substances, according to the UN.

The good news? Progress is possible.

Over 14,000 consumers joined us in pushing Carter's, the largest retailer of children's clothing in the US, to protect consumer health.

There is a lot you can do to build on that success and help end the industry’s reliance on hazardous chemicals.

  • Take action and call on Carter’s to protect worker health! Carter's must go beyond protecting consumers and address its impact on workers' health, including chemical management in the factory and respecting workers' right to health.
  • Shop second hand and check out other tips for shopping online sustainably.
  • You can buy new clothing from our Certified Green Businesses listed in our Green Pages.
  • Buying new? Look for clothing certified by Oeko-Tex or GOTS, which limit the harmful chemicals used to manufacture clothing.
  • If buying new, look for clothing made with organic cotton. Conventional cotton is soaked in pesticides and risks farm workers’ health.

Call on Carters to protect workers' health and end toxic textiles!

Thanks for all that you do,

Charlotte
