John, Earlier today, The Next Level Teacher Compensation Commission released a report detailing suggestions on strategies for raising teacher pay across the state – a critical issue impacting us all.
You probably heard a lot about this commission during the campaign. It was – and remains – an important issue facing Hoosiers. So we wanted to make sure you didn’t miss this report.
Thousands of Hoosiers submitted suggestions, with the commission making a wide range of recommendations for local school corporations and state government. You can review the commission’s recommendations here. “I am grateful to the commission for its dedication to developing these recommendations. The report provides a wide range of actions for all to review and consider moving forward. The options offer a base for continuing these important conversations about making compensation for our hard-working teachers more competitive.” - Governor Eric Holcomb Of course, Governor Holcomb has made raising teacher pay a top priority – with progress already underway. That’s included paying down $150 million toward a teacher pension liability. From there, we saw 98% of school corporations increase teacher pay.
And together as we’ve waged battle against a global pandemic, Governor Holcomb worked to ensure that the record K-12 education funding increases in the current state budget remained intact.
It’s essential that Indiana attracts and retains the nation’s best teachers. Our children – and the future of our state – depend on it.
Let us know what you think. What strategies do you think are most critical to making sure Indiana is home to the nation’s best teachers and the best educational opportunities for our kids? Let us know here.
