Tell President-elect Biden:
"Be bold in the first 100 days! Use executive action to strengthen American economic security."
|
John,
America needs bold leadership.
The Biden-Harris administration should not hesitate to use every tool at their disposal to improve the lives of Americans.
Rep. Ilhan Omar has put together a list of executive orders that the President can issue in his first 100 days to dramatically help people. Social Security Works supports them―and if you do too, add your name!
Our Social Security system is built on a solid foundation, but when our country’s economics get out of whack, it becomes unsteady. When wages are stagnant for a generation, retirement security suffers. When out of control drug prices eat up more and more of a Social Security check, retirement security suffers. When predatory student loan practices crowd out savings, retirement security suffers. We need action now!
Here are a few of the things the Biden-Harris administration can accomplish through executive orders:
-
Lower drug prices for millions by producing key drugs like insulin, naloxone, hepatitis C drugs and EpiPens at low costs using existing compulsory licensing authority that allows the federal government to bypass patents for pressing public health needs.
-
Raise the minimum wage for all federal contractors to $15 an hour.
-
Cancel tens of thousands of dollars in federal student loan debt. Student debt cancellation would be a massive economic stimulus at a time when people desperately need it. It’s also a racial equity issue—students of color are more likely to take out federal student loans, and face higher rates of default.
-
Reinstate Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for hundreds of thousands of immigrants targeted by Donald Trump.
-
Issue enforceable health and safety standards for COVID-19 through the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Wealthy corporations like Amazon that risk the lives and health of their workers should not be able to escape liability. The administration should also review racial disparities in pandemic funding.
-
Declare the climate crisis a national emergency, create an Office of Climate Mobilization reporting to the President, and mobilize a whole-of-government effort to rebuild the economy and stop the climate crisis.
-
Prioritize strong anti-monopoly protections and enforcement to address our rigged economy.
SIGN HERE to support this bold first 100 days agenda!
Thanks,
