The Single Stall Gender Neutral Bathroom Bill has been sent to Governor Cuomo’s desk after having passed the Assembly and Senate with overwhelming bipartisan support. It will only become law once the governor signs it.

Here’s how you can help ensure that this bill gets signed, and that people of all gender identities and expressions can access public accommodations wherever they are without fear of discrimination or harassment:

1. Sign the community letter

urging Governor Cuomo to sign the bill. (The deadline to add your name is Tuesday, December 15 at 5 p.m. ET!)

2. Email the Governor

to let him know that you support this bill.

3. Share your support on social media. You can use this message, or create your own:

“I am urging @NYGovCuomo to sign A.5240/S.6479 (O'Donnell/Salazar), making all single-stall restrooms in businesses and public places gender neutral. It is simple, easy to adopt, and makes a world of difference for TGNC folks just trying to go about their day.”

Background

This bill is common sense: it says that if a bathroom has only one stall, anyone can use it. It applies to all restaurants, bars, public and private schools, and other public facilities across the state. At the heart of this bill is transgender, gender nonconforming, and nonbinary people’s right to exist in the world as themselves, with safety and privacy.

Thanks for all you do,
