Have you seen these stats from Georgia that Tom Bonier, CEO of political data firm TargetSmart, recently shared on Twitter?
“31% of Georgians who voted in the '20 general election didn't vote in 2016. 9% of them had never voted before their vote last month.
“But among AAPI voters in GA, 55% didn't vote in '16, and 26% were first time voters.”
This just confirms what we already knew: AAPI voters were INTEGRAL to flipping Georgia blue in the presidential election, and AAPI voter turnout could very well secure Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock wins in their special elections on January 5.
But Republicans don’t want voters of color to turn out to the polls -- they know they’ll lose their control of the Senate if they do. That’s why they’re still entertaining Trump’s claims of voter fraud, even after recounting the ballots from the presidential election. It’s also why they’re launching an investigation into the Stacey Abrams-founded voter registration group, the New Georgia Project, for no good reason.
We at ASPIRE aren’t easily intimidated by Republican oppression -- we’ve been battling it for a long time, which is why we’re fighting harder than ever now to help mobilize AAPI voters before this critical election that will determine control of the Senate for years to come.
