When Dawnelle Boles unexpectedly lost her income due to the COVID-19 pandemic, she panicked. As a disabled veteran and single mother, she didn't know how she was going to put food on the table or buy basic necessities.
That's where DAV came in. Through DAV's COVID-19 Unemployment Relief Fund, Dawnelle received a grant to provide immediate financial relief for her family.
And that was just the beginning ...
A DAV National Service Officer then recognized that Dawnelle wasn't getting all the benefits she earned through her service. He corrected the issues on her claims and helped her file them properly. In the meantime, Dawnelle's local DAV Chapter gave her a gift card so she could purchase groceries, gas and other essential items.
"I cannot tell everyone the relief this gives me right now. This will feed both of us and get the basic necessities that people take for granted, such as toothpaste and laundry soap."
