John, the end of
the quarter is coming up fast, and frankly, the dollars we raise before
that will set our course for the future. Real Justice needs your support.

Listen. I want us to be ambitious. Our plans have to be on-scale with the
crises we face. But I also don’t want us to take on projects we can’t
finish. So the more funding we raise now, the bigger (and smarter) we can
go.

[ [link removed] ]I want to lay out a birds-eye view of our plans – and I want to ask you
to help fund them now while we’re budgeting for the future.

Here’s what’s already in the works – please read everything here, ok? It
all goes toward ending mass incarceration, but I want you to understand
how all the pieces fit together.

* Mobilizing volunteers, voters, and key resources for fast-approaching
district attorney races: We’re supporting Hobie Crystle in Lancaster,
PA and more bold reformers who we can count on to fight for real
justice. Their elections are on November 5th, so we don’t have much
time. This year, we already helped Jody Owens win in Jackson, MS,
Steve Descano in Fairfax, VA, and Parisa Dehghani-Tafti in Arlington,
VA. We can do it again.

* Pressuring existing district attorneys to end mass incarceration, hold
police accountable, and protect immigrants: We’re organizing hard in
dozens of counties (from Pima, AZ to Cobb, GA and beyond) – bringing
our demands for reform right to the steps and hallways of district
attorneys’ offices. And we’re scaling up our local teams to do even
deeper and more powerful organizing on the ground.

* Working with reform-minded champions who we already helped elect to
make sure their agendas succeed: The fight isn’t over once these
district attorneys are in office. We’ve seen champions like Larry
Krasner in Philadelphia and Rachael Rollins in Boston face opposition
from the old-guard political establishment.

* Building critical groundwork for 2020 district attorney races: We’ve
been organizing for months to elect Audia Jones in Houston, and we
just jumped in for José Garza in Austin last month. These races are
happening in counties that are ground-zero for mass incarceration. If
we can win here, we can help shift the whole game, but that will
require going big now.

* Recruiting public defenders to run for district attorney positions all
over the country: This is about finding people who genuinely care
about reform and have a demonstrated history that they will not buckle
under pressure once in office. We’re especially focusing on public
defenders from the places most affected by mass incarceration, who
want to replace the system with something radically different.

We need your support to see these plans through, and to take on even more.
So I’m asking:

[ [link removed] ]We have an important budgeting deadline at the end of this month, and
we need to raise as much as possible now. Make your best gift to help fund
our plans to win real justice.

We have enough people reading this email to put us in good shape, so if
you’re one of them, we’re depending on you.

Let’s go!

Shaun
