Join the Arlington Chamber of Commerce for our Small Business Roundtable on December 15 from 11:45 a.m.-1:00 p.m. We will be joined by Larysa Kautz, President & CEO of Melwood.

Diversity in the workplace is good for business – so why is neurodiverse talent employed at a much lower rate than those of “typical” abilities? More importantly, how can businesses reach, recruit and retain this talent? Melwood helps hundreds of people with disabilities find work each year. Larysa will talk about the advantages of creating a neurodiverse workforce and how it’s easier and less expensive for companies to implement than you may think.

The roundtable is free to members but space is limited and registration is requested.

On December 10, Governor Northam announced new, stronger restrictions for the entire Commonwealth of Virginia that went into effect today at 12:01 a.m. The restrictions include a modified stay at home order and a limit of 10 individuals for social gatherings. This mandate will go into effect through January 31, 2021 unless rescinded or amended.

The following measures have taken effect today:

  • Reduction of social gathering limit to 10 people: All public and private in-person gatherings must be limited to 10 individuals, down from the current cap of 25 people.
  • Modified stay-at-home order with curfew between 12:00-5:00 a.m.: All individuals in Virginia must remain at their place of residence between the hours of 12:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m.
  • Universal mask requirements: All Virginians aged five and over are required to wear face coverings in indoor settings shared with others and when outdoors within six feet of another person.
  • Continued limits on dining establishments: Virginia restaurants are currently governed by strict social distancing and sanitization requirements, which remain in place.
  • Teleworking: Employees that can telework are strongly encouraged to do so.

The Chamber wrote a letter to the County Board regarding the new Green Building Incentive program and highlighted specific aspects that should be reconsidered as well as points that the Chamber agreed with. The Chamber believes that an effective incentive program should remain connected to the actual costs of implementing green building techniques and focused on environmental outcomes.
