Friend –
On top of illness, people around the world are facing an extra side effect of COVID-19: Hunger. An Oxfam report warns that 121 million more people could be pushed to the brink of starvation this year as a result of mass unemployment, disruption to food production and supplies, and declining aid.
"COVID-19 is the last straw for millions of people already struggling with the impacts of conflict, climate change, inequality, and a broken food system that has impoverished millions of food producers and workers," said Oxfam America President Abby Maxman.

The situation is far from hopeless. Since the pandemic began, Oxfam has reached 11.3 million of the world's most vulnerable people with food aid and clean water, working together with over 344 partners in more than 60 countries. We're working to increase that number, with the goal of helping 14 million people through this crisis and joining forces with partners around the world to provide immediate direct aid where it's most needed. In the United States, we're advocating for the government to take steps to help the most vulnerable make ends meet during the pandemic.
Research warns that as many as 12,000 people could die per day by the end of the year as a result of hunger linked to COVID-19.
