The 1776 Opportunity: A 2026 Year Long Celebration

This year, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to write the Heritage Foundation’s 2020 President’s essay, which will be published this week.
To help spread the message, I also decided to focus

today’s episode of Newt’s World on the essay and an important project Heritage is leading.
I have worked with the Heritage Foundation for decades – at least since I first joined the US House of Representatives in 1979. For all of those decades, Heritage Foundation has been essential for the conservative cause and America.
This year, Heritage is focusing on a celebration of America – partly to answer the Left’s effort to distort and degrade America’s history ( The New York Times’ 1619 Project is an great example of this), and partly to provide an optimistic view of our future which uplifts and protects every American’s cherished rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Picking up on this idea that America should be celebrated, in my essay, I suggest that we should be preparing to create a year-long celebration of our country and its principles in 2026, which will be the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the true birth of our nation.
Indeed, July 4, 2026 should be a central moment for reigniting American understanding and American passion for our unique and remarkable history.

During the holiday season, our thoughts turn to our family, friends, and those in need. In this spirit, the Gingrich Foundation is pleased to announce that our December Charity of the Month is Catholic Charities USA in recognition of its outstanding commitment to helping the neediest Americans.
Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA) was formed in 1910 to act as the “attorney for the poor.” Today, it has grown to become one of the nation’s largest providers of social services. Catholic Charities maintains an extraordinary range of programs, which provide food, shelter, clothing, counseling, financial assistance, adoption services, disaster relief, and other emergency services to approximately 10 million people each year.
This year in particular, Catholic Charities has been working on the front lines helping those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Its programs are community-based and rooted in market principles, careful measurement of results, and on working with individuals to foster greater opportunity and self-sufficiency.
