As 2020 draws to a close I ask again for your financial help for the independent, nonprofit, nonpartisan Florida Bulldog.
2020 was an awful year. It was also very busy year for local and regional news. Since Jan. 1, we've published 101 locally produced stories, shattering our previous record of 76 stories in a full year. We also spent more heavily to bring those stories to you.
COVID-19 was at the center of much our watchdog reporting, including exclusives about the state’s freewheeling hand-out of multi-million-dollar, no-bid COVID testing and similar contracts to crooks, and cronies of Gov. DeSantis.
Our biggest story exposed Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony’s disturbing secret: that as a teenager in Philadelphia he shot and killed a man. It was the first of more than a dozen stories about Tony, including news of what looked suspiciously like bid rigging in BSO’s purchase of “bleed kits” from a company Tony used to work for.
But there was more, much more, including our coverage of NRA lobbyist Marion Hammer’s influence over the state ethics commission, the Republican-led Florida Senate and Democrat Nikki Fried, and how the Trump administration granted special permits to haul highly explosive liquified natural gas on Florida East Coast Railway tracks to owner Fortress, the huge investment group that had forgiven tens of millions of dollars in loans to President Trump. Then, of course, there was our continuing, coverage of 9/11.
We’d like to keep it coming in 2021, but we need your help. Give now and NewsMatch has pledged to match your gift through the end of the year. All gifts are tax deductible. To help click: https://www.givegab.com/nonprofits/florida-bulldog
Thank you for your consideration
