Securing Important Resources for West Virginians
As we continue moving forward with the appropriations process, I’ve remained committed to advocating for the best interests of West Virginians and making sure funding is included to address our most pressing needs and priorities. I was proud to help advance the next round of funding bills earlier this week, which will help improve our roads, bridges, and airports; encourage rural development; support broadband deployment; and continue our fight against the opioid epidemic.
Something I was particularly glad to announce was the $100 million in dedicated funding for the Appalachian Development Highway System (ADHS) in the Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development Appropriations bill. This is something I’ve been working on for a while, and it’s great news for West Virginia because our state could be eligible for nearly $16 million of these funds to support the completion of Corridor H. This ADHS appropriation is a critical step in getting more resources to Corridor H in addition to the two grants totaling $120 million for the road that I secured as chair of the EPW Transportation and Infrastructure subcommittee in December 2018 and May 2019. Earlier this summer, I led a letter to Appropriations leaders urging them to include these funds in the final THUD bill, and I was glad to see these efforts pay off.
I look forward to advancing more of these bills and moving this process forward, and I will continue working to make sure additional funding measures reflect West Virginia’s priorities.
Nominating the Next Generation of Leaders
As a U.S. senator, I have the great privilege of nominating young West Virginians for entry into our military academies. This afternoon, I’ll be hosting my first Academy Day event of the fall. This one will take place in Jefferson County at 2:00 p.m.; but if you can’t make this one or don’t live nearby, I have several more opportunities to attend events like this all across the state. I hope you’ll join us and meet representatives from West Point, the Air Force Academy, the Merchant Marine Academy, and the Naval Academy. Learn more about academy nominations here and check out the event information below.

Grant Updates
Making sure our communities have the resources they need is important to improving the lives of West Virginians and building a brighter future for our state. Whether it’s providing funding for transportation infrastructure or delivering resources to support education programs, my position on the Senate Appropriations Committee has empowered me to secure funds for important West Virginia priorities. This week, I was proud to announce several grants that will help communities and programs across the state. Learn more about each one below:
