Girl power! GLAAD is celebrating the U.S.
women’s national soccer team’s 2-0 victory over the Netherlands on
Sunday, which solidified them as back-to-back World Cup
champions.
GLAAD was loud
and proud on Twitter as it showcased the talent of the
whole team and its LGBTQ players. A special shout out to openly gay
forward Megan Rapinoe, who not only received the Golden Ball for being
the World Cup’s best player and the Golden Boot for earning the place
as top scorer, but for being a consistent champion for raising
awareness that the queer community is strong, fearless and
everywhere!
The famous soccer player and activist
also shared this legendary
photo on her personal Twitter.

Hundreds
join GLAAD in historic NYC Pride March during WorldPride
On June 30, hundreds joined GLAAD in the
historic NYC Pride March as the city welcomed millions for WorldPride.
This was the first time in history that any U.S. city had hosted
WorldPride, with this year’s celebration coinciding with the 50th
anniversary of the Stonewall uprising. The GLAAD marchers and
celebrity guests all sported looks from the Express LOVE UNITES
collection
that benefits GLAAD. Click here to see more photos and find out which LGBTQ
icons joined GLAAD on the march.
GLAAD issues
new report on anti-LGBTQ activists leading State Department’s new
“Commission on Unalienable Rights”
A new “Commission” was created on behalf of
the U.S. State Department to provide the federal government with “an
informed review of the role of human rights in foreign policy.” GLAAD
found that seven of the 10 members appointed have a history of anti-LGBTQ
activity. “This
‘Commission’ is a farce and further illustrates the bold-faced
anti-LGBTQ agenda of this administration,” said Sarah Kate Ellis,
President and CEO of GLAAD. “The Trump Administration is knowingly
appointing activists who have made careers out of fighting against
LGBTQ progress and is now providing them an opportunity to export
their anti-LGBTQ activism around the world through the U.S. State
Department.” This marks the 117th attack on the LGBTQ community by the Trump
administration since taking office.
