Chris CoonsJoin us.
Dear John,

Twenty-five years ago, I had the honor of leading one of the first national AmeriCorps programs, and witnessed firsthand the transformative power public service has on the individuals that serve and the communities that benefit.

At the National "I Have a Dream" Foundation, I worked with AmeriCorps members to provide after school programs in tough neighborhoods where too few students were able to reach their full potential.

This experience changed my life, and I began to see how our sense of common purpose and values bind us together as Americans.

Twenty-five years later, national service continues to produce extraordinary results, helping countless Americans escape poverty, succeed in school, and find productive work. While there's much to celebrate with what AmeriCorps has achieved, we must rededicate ourselves to the work that lies ahead.

It's time to strengthen and reimagine our commitment to national service by calling on a new generation to serve. Our young people are ready to answer that call, but few know how to get involved or have the resources to do so. We need their help to combat the opioid epidemic, protect our environment, and provide opportunities for veterans.

We can reward those who serve our country at home or abroad by helping them develop valuable skills and earn their way to higher education while improving our communities and our country. I introduced the ACTION Act so that national service becomes a viable and accessible option for young people regardless of their economic background.

In exchange for one full year of service, a student will receive an education benefit equivalent to two years of the average in-state tuition at a public, four-year college, or full undergraduate tuition with two years of service.

In honor of the 25th anniversary of AmeriCorps, let's reaffirm our commitment to national service. If you believe in the life-changing power of national service, add your name in support of the ACTION Act.

Thank you,

Chris
