The AAUP is fighting for the future of higher education and the profession.

Dear John

There are times when being part of a movement matters. Now is one of those times.

For more than a hundred years, the AAUP has been advancing academic freedom and shared governance, defining fundamental professional values and standards for higher education, and ensuring higher education's contribution to the common good. Today, we’re working on many fronts--on campuses, at statehouses, and in the courts-- to protect against partisan suppression of scientific research, threats to campus speech, and privatization of core university functions.

Join the AAUP today.

(Did you membership lapse? You can renew here).

Why? Because together we can give faculty members and academic professionals a voice in the present and future of higher education. Together, we can defend the rights of students and faculty to speak truth to power. Together, we can ensure that higher education is a common good and vital building block of democracy---not a profit center.

In recent months, the AAUP has worked to rein in Alaska governor Mike Dunleavy's slashing of the state’s higher education system, joined civil rights organizations in a US Supreme Court brief against workplace discrimination based on LGBTQ status, examined best practices in dual enrollment programs, and joined thirty-three other higher education groups in support of the College Student Hunger Act of 2019. We’ve developed tools to help faculty organize their response to campus privatization initiatives and state legislation that seeks to regulate campus speech.

We can’t do it without you. Join today.

As a member, you’ll have access to our toolkits and FAQs, plus easy-to-share videos on the importance of academic freedom. This fall, we’ll be offering members a training on social media best practices and a webinar about program closures and declarations of financial exigency. You'll also receive access to Academe magazine, our annual report on faculty compensation, members-only webinars, and insurance programs. What’s more, you’ll join thousands of faculty members across the country who are fighting for the future of higher education as a common good.

The fight continues. Join today.
