Hakeem knows that COVID-19 is a once-in-a-century pandemic, and believes it requires a once-in-a-century response from our leaders in Washington. Yet Americans everywhere are still waiting for Congress to act.

It’s been eight months since the CARES Act was passed last March, providing much-needed financial relief to struggling Americans in the form of stimulus payments, small-business loans, additional unemployment benefits, and more.

But under the failed and absent leadership of the Trump Administration, this pandemic — cases, hospitalizations, deaths, and economic impacts — has only worsened. By now, the first round of checks and loans have been spent, and to make matters worse, additional unemployment benefits are set to expire on December 26th, the day after millions of Americans celebrate Christmas. That’s just heartless.

The people are calling out for help, and so far, their desperate pleas have been ignored by Mitch McConnell, who’s consistently refused to bring multiple relief bills up for a vote in the Senate.

Hakeem is working day in and out to reach a deal between Democrats and Republicans and get direct relief into the hands of workers, families and business-owners. His voice is clear: Congress cannot adjourn until our leaders provide meaningful relief to everyday Americans.

With time running out before benefits expire, Congress adjourns and the year ends, we need to come together today and put pressure on McConnell and Republicans to do the right thing and pass relief NOW.
