John,

On Dec. 14, 2012, we had a lockdown in my fifth-grade science class. We were told there had been an "incident" at Sandy Hook Elementary – where my little brother, Daniel, went to school.

When I got home, Daniel wasn't there. I silently cried as I followed my parents upstairs. Somewhere deep inside of me, I realized what was coming.

When they told me he had been murdered in his first-grade classroom, I screamed and cried. Cried and screamed. There was nothing else to do after learning my 7-year-old brother was dead.

I don't think people realize that after eight years, I still feel the pain of losing Daniel every day. I don't want to do interviews. I don't like talking to people about this because it causes me more pain. But I force myself to take action because I feel like if I don't, then more kids are going to die.

But I can't do this work alone.

That's why I'm hoping you'll help Sandy Hook Promise reach its $750,000 goal by tomorrow's deadline so we can protect more children like my little brother, Daniel, from gun violence. Please, will you give right now to prevent the next tragedy?

Please donate $10, or as much as you can, to Sandy Hook Promise right now. Every dollar of your tax-deductible gift will make a real difference in protecting children from gun violence.

This work to prevent future tragedies can't wait or slow down. Gun violence has affected my life in every way, and Monday marks eight years since Daniel was murdered. I feel like if you can do something to spare someone that pain – if you can do something to spare one person from losing their life – you need to do it.

I'm doing everything in my power to put a stop to these massacres, and I hope you'll join me by supporting this lifesaving work today. Thank you so much.

Natalie Barden (Daniel's sister)
