John --
It's been eight months since Congress sent stimulus checks as COVID-19 relief to American families. Let that sink in for a moment -- just $1,200 to last eight months.
But even while families struggle and run to food banks for a lifeline, Republicans in Congress continue to shamelessly block any attempt to pass new relief.
Look, I know from personal experience what it's like to grow up without money. I was raised by a single mother in public housing. And I know without a doubt that $1,200 wouldn't have been nearly enough for my mother to pay the rent, all of our bills, and put food on our table. It's a heartless excuse for real economic relief for working families.
I'm doing everything I can now to push for new economic relief for working families just like the one I grew up in, because what Congress has done so far is not enough -- period. It's just the same old status quo of playing political games without regard for the lives of working families, and it has to stop.
We need to mount a renewed progressive effort to hold Republicans accountable for their unacceptable obstruction.
One of the most powerful ways to do that is to make sure that our movement has the resources to fight back. But, our first benchmark fundraising deadline is this month and we're still short of our $10,000 goal.
So now, I need you to join our progressive, people-powered campaign by pitching in a small donation -- even just $10 -- to help me fight in Congress for decency and compassion. Can I count on you, John? >>
