Friends,
Please join us for an evening with Candi Carter, executive producer of “The View,” moderated by Poynter's own Katie Sanders, managing editor of PolitiFact.
ABC’s “The View” has become an essential campaign stop for Democrats and must-watch TV for Republicans.
Senior White House officials email producers during the broadcast and text the hosts during commercial breaks. The first interviews Senator Cory Booker and former Vice President Joe Biden gave after they announced their candidacy for president went to the women on “The View.” Representative Tim Ryan announced his candidacy on the show. By July 2019, more than a dozen major candidates for the Democratic nomination had appeared on “The View.”
How did this daytime talk show become what The New York Times recently called “the most important political TV show in America”? And what does that say about journalism, politics and our culture?
Sanders will interview Carter about the importance of a diverse staff, the power of a majority-female audience, how to moderate authentic debate between political parties and why “The View” might change the 2020 election. And, we'll chat with Carter about her experience in her previous role producing "The Oprah Winfrey Show."
