Friend,
Hundreds of thousands of Americans are now dead. Tens of millions are unemployed. And Congress hasn’t passed any substantial COVID relief since April.
And we shouldn’t hold our breath that anything will get done before January. As POLITICO reports: “After months of stalemate, there’s finally a flurry of congressional activity as the coronavirus crisis worsens. But with lawmakers proposing dueling measures and Hill leaders divided over the best path forward, a major relief package approved in December remains elusive.”
The reason we have no plan is essentially two-fold: The White House is no longer engaging in talks now that Trump lost his second term, and Mitch McConnell is only inclined to support a full-throttled GOP-centric approach to the pandemic rather than a bipartisan one.
It’s clearer than ever that McConnell is banking on maintaining control of the Senate come January 5, which, in his eyes, renders these current talks useless.
Listen, our nation is in the darkest of times. We NEED a Democrat-crafted relief plan -- $2 trillion in aid including robust funding for struggling state and local governments -- and that will only happen if we flip the Senate. If we let the GOP take the wheel on getting our country out of the pandemic, even more lives will be senselessly lost.
