John,
Voter suppression has always been used as a weapon against Black and brown folks across the country.
Right now in Georgia, voter suppression is blatantly happening right in front of us ahead of the runoff election in January.
Cobb County has reportedly decided to cut
half of its early voting sites for the runoff. The early voting sites that are closing are in predominantly Black and brown neighborhoods and where public transportation isn’t as accessible as other towns. Cobb county is the 3rd largest county in Georgia, and this decision is no coincidence.
Groups like the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and Black Voters Matter have already sent a letter to Cobb County Board of Commissioners, and
right now, Black Lives Matter PAC is building major GOTV events so that we can ensure our folks in Cobb County will have their voices heard despite these blatant efforts to suppress the vote.
Can you rush a donation of $5 or more to combat voter suppression and help with one of our biggest GOTV missions of the January runoff? We need to raise $75,000 today to cover the extra expenses.
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:
During early voting for the general election, voters in Cobb County were faced with long lines for periods of 5 to 10 hours. This is a form of voter suppression within itself. If folks in Cobb County were waiting this long with twice as many early voting sites, imagine what’ll happen without those sites.
It was much of Cobb County that helped to elect Joe Biden, flipping Georgia blue for the first time in nearly 30 years.
Again, we have to recognize that this type of switch-up is not a coincidence.
Voter suppression doesn’t just happen -- it’s strategic, and it’s planned. The move to eliminate half of early voting locations in the 3rd most populated GA county that are majority Black and brown communities didn’t just happen --
this was strategically planned.
We will not stand by and watch Cobb County blatantly suppress the vote. If we work together,
we will make sure that our folks in Cobb County will have their voices heard.
But we need to raise $75,000 today to pay for our new GOTV work in Cobb County. Will you chip in a donation to help fuel our efforts to combat this voter suppression?
Thank you,
Black Lives Matter PAC
