Dear John,

I am delighted to announce that we have reached our target in the Big Give Christmas Challenge!

A huge thank you to the record 393 generous supporters who have secured this year’s project, a lifeline for women and their families in some of the poorest communities in Ethiopia. The project, ‘Women Leading Sustainable Cooperatives’, delivered in partnership with Siiqqee Women’s Development Association, will go ahead in 2021!

One of our longest partnerships, Womankind has been proudly working with Siiqqee for over twenty years. In that time we have brought thousands of women together to learn and share skills. All with the common goal of securing a reliable income so that women can support themselves and their families.

Marta started [link removed] with other women years ago when Siiqqee first established the idea of women-led self-help groups in her hometown of Nekemte, Ethiopia.

“I want to thank Siiqqee for teaching me about saving and changing my life. It’s because of Siiqqee I was able to construct a house and educate my children. One child has graduated from school and is employed and the other is at university.”

Thanks to donors to the 2018-19 Big Give Christmas Challenge, Siiqqee was able to transition Marta’s self-help group into an active income-generating cooperative engaged in market trading and brick production.

“Siiqqee are very important because they are the teacher and the teacher should exist not only for us but for generations to come. There are generations waiting who will need their help.”

Now thanks to this year’s Big Give Christmas Challenge success, women-led cooperatives will be strengthened and secured into the future. Hundreds of women will be able to experience transformational change in their lives like Marta. We cannot thank you all enough for making this possible.

I look forward to updating you on the progress of these ambitious women-led cooperatives in the coming months.

With very best wishes,

Hannah Little
