Dear Friend,
Access to birth control enables young people to have the power to decide if, when, and under what circumstances to get pregnant and have a child. And when that happens, we all benefit.
Studies show that since its legalization, contraception has helped lead to greater educational and career attainment for women. Access to safe and effective contraception contributed to 30% of the wage gains made by women between the 1960s and the 1990s.
Birth control also helps individuals improve their health and the health of their families. Children born as the result of unintended pregnancy are at greater risk of premature birth and low birthweight. What’s more, results of our recent survey show that 74% of adults age 18-34 are grateful that birth control allows them to manage health conditions.
Birth control is popular, too. Nearly 9 in 10 American adults—regardless of political affiliation—support access to all methods of contraception.
