News From The Week Of December 7 – December 11, 2020

Friend:

The year 2020 cannot end fast enough! On Monday, Trump’s Department of Labor issued a rule that expands the ability of federal contractors to discriminate against employees on the basis of religion. That means one fifth of the entire American workforce can be subjected to religious litmus tests in hiring and firing decisions. It is especially heartless to issue this new rule now, in the midst of a global public health and economic crisis.

We urge the Biden-Harris administration to immediately begin the process of revoking this rule. Read more here: [link removed]

Like many other actions taken by the Trump administration, this rule particularly puts at risk workers who are LGBTQ, women, religious minorities and non-religious people. On Tuesday, I joined the U.K.-based National Secular Society’s latest podcast episode to talk about Trump’s embrace of Christian nationalism and its influence on discriminatory policies like this one. We also talked about what to expect from a Biden-Harris administration, how to build an inclusive movement advocating for separation of religion and government, and so much more.

Please read on below to learn about the first five, and keep an eye out for the remaining five next week!

The next four years will be crucial ones for the future of religious freedom, friend. I’m so grateful to have you by our side.

Finally, if you are celebrating, wishing you and your family a Hanukkah full of light, hope and joy!

With hope and gratitude,
