John,
I have been fighting for another round of COVID-19 relief since the summer.
I am demanding that we pass a bill that is focused on workers and the middle class. That means direct payments — money in people’s pockets. It also means an extension of unemployment insurance, small business relief, help for vaccine distribution, and so much more.
This has been such a hard year for everyone — especially our restaurant owners, who have been severely impacted by temporary public health closures. These job-creators deserve help, which is why I am a proud supporter of the RESTAURANTS Act, which would create $120 billion in grants to help our restaurants keep workers employed and their lights on.
On the other hand, Republican leaders like Mitch McConnell want a minuscule package and are more focused on legislation that would be good for corporations. They are fighting to ensure that big businesses get broad immunity from accountability if they recklessly put their employees or customers in harm’s way of COVID-19.
And to make matters worse, 106 Republicans in Congress signed onto a lawsuit this week trying to overturn the results of the 2020 election. That is what they are focused on, instead of delivering desperately-needed relief to the American people.
