What does it take to vaccinate the world? Your COVID-19 vaccine questions answered:

Hi Friend,

The COVID-19 vaccine is on all of our minds and you probably have lots of questions — so let's talk.

What is the status of the vaccine?

You’ve likely seen the headlines that the first vaccine has received FDA approval. This is an incredible development that paves the way for full use and distribution of the vaccine. Now as this vaccine and the several others that are still seeking approval become accessible to the public, UNICEF is fast tracking efforts to vaccinate the world.

Where does UNICEF come into vaccine distribution?

UNICEF has been asked to lead efforts to procure and supply vaccines for 186 countries on behalf of the Access to COVID-19 Tools (ACT) Accelerator and its COVAX Facility. UNICEF already distributes over 2 billion vaccines each year to nearly 50 percent of the world's children. Our global presence and expertise in procurement make UNICEF the only organization capable of delivering the vaccine equitably and at global scale.

What is UNICEF doing right now to prepare for the vaccine?

1. Planning out the largest and fastest ever vaccine program to ensure that available doses are fairly allocated to all participating countries.
2. Building a supply stockpile that includes syringes needed to deliver 2 billion COVID-19 vaccines and cold chain equipment to transport vaccines.
3. Training health care workers and providing low- and middle-income countries with guidance on how to efficiently and effectively vaccinate vulnerable people.
4. Addressing logistics and needs to assure that no one is left behind.

How can you help?

Vaccinating the world is no easy task and we need your help to make it possible. UNICEF’s goal is to deliver 2 billion COVID-19 vaccines around the world in 2021. To do so, we must ensure that enough supplies are acquired, supply chains are established and access is equitable. Now that a vaccine is FDA-approved, we must act quickly to put our plans into action.

With your support we can achieve this goal and protect billions of people >>
