Dear Friend,

Representative Katie Porter just blasted Senate Majority Leader Mitch
McConnell for siding with the worst of the worst in corporate malpractice.

The superstar congresswoman tweeted yesterday that the one person holding
up the bipartisan COVID-19 relief bill is Sen. McConnell—who is insisting
on protecting those corporations who are refusing to safeguard their
employees’ health.^1

We CANNOT let McConnell take away the rights of the most vulnerable among
us for the sake of corporate greed during the pandemic. We are rallying
the grassroots pressure needed to convince him to drop the shield.

relief bill with a liability shield?

America is in crisis, but instead of stepping up and fighting for
families, McConnell is insisting on fighting for corporations that are
raking in billions of dollars while doing nothing to keep their employees
safe from harm.

Porter’s tweet thread exposed how McConnell has spent months blocking
stimulus relief, leaving essential workers and American families without
help because he demands that corporations be given protections when they
create unsafe conditions for employees.^2

As Porter said, the liability shield prevents people from suing businesses
that haven’t put in place necessary coronavirus safeguards. Think of the
nursing homes that didn’t test employees and had patients die of COVID.
The warehouses that refused to provide PPE. The grocery stores that put
their employees in harm’s way rather than institute a mask mandate. All of
those bad actors would be let off the hook indefinitely.

And make no mistake: The liability shield is McConnell’s pet project. If
it passes in this bill, McConnell will never let another relief bill come
up for a vote in 2021.

But if we don’t stop McConnell, he’ll spin this story as Congress holding
up relief for the American people, not as McConnell himself selling out
the people in favor of corporations.

Demand Progress is sounding the alarm about McConnell’s nefarious giveaway
to corporations to stop the liability shield. Will you donate?

[ [link removed] ]Yes, I’ll donate to help stop McConnell from sneaking liability shields
into the COVID-19 relief bill.

Thanks for standing with us.

Robert Cruickshank,
