Rep. Vicki Kraft: Give parents options to decide the best education for their children

Before the 2021 session in January, I will pre-file legislation to give parents the power to decide the best education for their children in Washington state. It will build upon House Bill 2933, a measure I introduced last year that proposed the Education Choice Scholarship Program. Under this program, the education money allocated to a child in a public school (about $12,000) could instead be used by the parent for a private school or homeschooling instruction of their choice. LD 17 Chair: Aura Reddington

Raised in communist Romania, Aura came to the US during the last month of the Carter Administration. Seeing changes that the US was headed in the wrong direction politically prompted her to get more involved. Aura and her husband have volunteered with election campaigns and have gone to Olympia to stand against SB-5395. Her vision for the local Republican Party is one of strong presence and involvement in our community. Our party platform values every life, promotes liberty, and the opportunity to pursue the American dream. Aura encouraged Republicans to work together to elect Republicans to local school boards and city councils.

O‍ther officers elected include:

Referendum submitted to rescind new county ban on fireworks

On Dec. 1, members of the Clark County Council approved new restrictions on what types of fireworks can be sold or used in the rural, unincorporated areas of Clark County. It will prohibit fireworks that explode, fly more than a foot into the air, or travel more than six feet along the ground. Republican, Peter Silliman said “The people of our county now have the power of referendum, which means if your councillors pass something that you don’t agree with, you can put that on hold,’’ Silliman said. “You can gather signatures and put that on the ballot so that people can decide for themselves.” Read more here.
