Obscenely long lines.
Polling stations understaffed or closed altogether.
Last minute voter purges.
Broken voting machines.
For years, our elections have faced a parade of avoidable and wholly unacceptable challenges.
Add to those Donald Trump's all-out assault on the integrity of the vote, and it's clear that we have to reform our elections to make sure they're safe, secure, and accessible to all Americans.
There's a simple solution: bring Oregon-style Vote-By-Mail nationwide.
This year, vote-by-mail allowed millions of Americans to cast their votes safely and efficiently in the middle of a raging pandemic. I'd call that a slam dunk for democracy.
But Senate Republicans refuse to give every American the option to vote-by-mail because they're terrified of relying on free and fair elections.
Election Day foul-ups are part of the Republican strategy to depress turnout. Republicans have spent years implementing policies nationwide to methodically undermine access to voting, especially for people of color.
These problems aren't just a one-time glitch in our elections. They're a pattern of systematic voter suppression, and they're going to get worse if we don't put a stop to it.
That's why I'm leading the fight in Congress for national vote-by-mail, and why Mitch McConnell is so intent on stopping me. I'm determined to make sure our democracy is strong and healthy enough to withstand all attacks, from COVID-19 to Republican tricks, and I won't stop until our elections work for every American in every state.
