** News of the world environment
------------------------------------------------------------
These days, it feels like there’s an endless supply of news sources covering the most attention-grabbing or sensational stories of the day. Media has grown so exponentially in the past two decades that it is pretty much impossible to keep up with all the publications, radio shows, news websites, apps, podcasts and more.
Having so much information battling for your attention can be exhausting. Yet, at the same time, much of what you read can leave you feeling unsatisfied and under-informed. Most modern news producers offer little space for stories that don’t fit neatly into the rapid-fire, 24-hour news cycle.
At the Journal, however, our focus is not so much on being first, but on offering our readers accuracy, depth, context, and thoughtful analysis about key environmental issues across the world.
If you are looking for little-known stories that dig deeper, or nuanced essays that explore our myriad connections with the natural world, or uplifting narratives of environmental wins, Earth Island Journal is here for you.
Here, for example, are some of our top digital stories of 2020 that were unrelated to the news cycle at the time of publication. Each of these was published without a paywall, thanks to support from our readers.

Your gift will help us go beyond daily headlines and follow these stories of education, resistance, and advocacy in service of climate change, public health, racial injustice and our wild world.
As a nonprofit publication, our mission is to inform, educate and inspire action. That’s why we rely on your support. Every little bit helps. If you can’t give $15/month, even $5/month — about the price of large coffee — helps cover the costs of covering environmental movements around the world.
You still have time to make a tax-deductible year-end donation. Won’t you join us?
