John,

For decades, the Hyde Amendment has allowed anti-choice politicians to block federal Medicaid funding for abortion coverage.

This amendment disproportionately discriminates against people of color — the majority of women, transgender, and non-binary Americans enrolled in Medicaid are of color and live in states that limit abortion access.

No one’s race, age, Zip Code, or income should determine whether they receive health care or not. We must keep fighting to ensure every American has unmitigated access to the care they need and deserve.

If you agree, will you add your name next to mine demanding the Hyde Amendment is repealed, immediately?

It’s no secret that Republicans are hard at work to undermine and repeal Roe v. Wade. They even appointed an anti-choice judge, Amy Coney Barret, to the Supreme Court to swing anti-abortion votes in their favor.

But politicians have never belonged in the exam room or in discussions about bodily autonomy. The Hyde Amendment — and any legislation like it — is a direct threat to rights and health. And frankly, banning abortions doesn’t stop abortions from happening — it only leads to illegal, back-alley abortions that put countless lives in danger. We cannot return to those dark days.

Repealing this amendment is not only the right thing to do, it’s how we take a step toward racial justice in our country.

The time is now to put an end to restrictive and discriminatory policies. Add your name next to mine demanding the Hyde Amendment is repealed.

Thank you for your unyielding support.

In solidarity,

Barbara Lee
