Howdy Comrade,
Colleen here, former chair of the Houston DSA Femme Demo Crew. The catastrophic flooding Houston experienced yesterday from tropical storm Imelda affected most of us here in Houston, but some of our families, still recovering from Hurricane Harvey, were heavily hit again.
Today I've been teamin gup with West Street Recovery to organize visits to damaged homes, collect tools, and plan out help for families who need it.
What I really need tomorrow are volunteers!
Tomorrow, Saturday, September 21st, at Bohemeo's at 8 am, we'll meet up like we did right after Harvey. We'll have hot breakfast tacos available for all to enjoy during a brief safety orientation before leaving for a house at 9AM. Please try and wear sturdy shoes, long pants, and long sleeves!
We'll also have gloves, glasses, and masks available for all. Please try and RSVP with me at 713-320-0922 or by replying to my post on Mattermost so I know how many people to expect!
You don't need any experience or handiness, we will have all the tools and will teach you any skills you need. If you can't make 8 AM, let me know you're coming late and I'll send you the address and make sure there is enough protective equipment for you!
Because of my personal time constraints, this is a single weekend event. If you miss the demo days or if you regret not experiencing one while we ran it, now is the time to make plans.
Thanks!
Colleen Kennedy
