John -- The reports are in and all signs indicate the nomination of Congresswoman Marcia Fudge as the next Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). This is definitely one of the incoming administration’s better cabinet picks. 

Running HUD in a way that will make a difference for the American people requires breaking precedent, doing away with the status-quo, and having a Congress ready to fight for those who have to choose between housing and healthcare or housing and groceries. These are impossible choices for people, so we must do better. 

Too often, local governments bow to the will of real estate developers and corporations, fast tracking luxury housing and gentrifying neighborhoods. This often makes affordable housing even further out of reach and forces people out of the neighborhoods where they have lived for their entire lives.
