Dear John,
Jessica Benham is looking at the camera and smiling in a professional headshot. She is white, has long, straight brown hair and bright red lipstick. [[link removed]] My name is Jessica Benham, and I just won my election this past November to be the state representative for Pennsylvania’s 36 th district. I was open about being Autistic when I campaigned, because not only am I unashamed to be Autistic, I’m proud to be who I am. My confidence comes from being in community with other Autistic people and advocating together for justice. The Autistic Self Advocacy Network w orks every day for the rights of all people with disabilities, and their tools and programs help autistic people get more involved in advocacy. This holiday season, will you join me in supporting ASAN’s work? [[link removed]]
I attended Autism Campus Inclusion [[link removed]] in 2016. Though I had advocacy experience before ACI, I gained more confidence and more connections with other Autistic people through attending. It was such an incredible experience, and I loved discovering the joy of networking with other autistic people. In fact, all of the ACI alums from my year still have an active group chat, where we share ideas and support each other! The connections I made at ACI have helped me continue to succeed as an advocate.
Your support enables the Autistic Self Advocacy Network to run programs like ACI, providing education and support to Autistic adults. Will you support ASAN’s mission today? [[link removed]] Your donations help community leaders learn about disability history, self-advocacy, and how to make changes they want to see in the world. I know more openly Autistic community leaders are waiting in the wings, and they need our help to flourish!
Thank you,
Jessica Benham
