Governor Ducey Urges Congress To Ratify USMCA In Washington D.C.
Governor Doug Ducey this week joined the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington D.C. to urge Congress to ratify the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). The governor spoke about the significant economic impact trade has in Arizona, including the more than 228,000 Arizona jobs that are supported by the state's trade relationships with Canada and Mexico.

"Arizona's widespread support for a Trump-negotiated trade agreement with Mexico and Canada is perhaps unsurprising, given its status as a GOP stronghold and reliance on its North American neighbors. Mexico is Arizona's largest export market, accounting for $7.6 billion (34%) of its 2018 exports. Arizonans also shipped $2.1 billion of goods to Canada last year, making it the state's second-largest export market."

"Mexico is Arizona's top trading partner. Canada ranks as the state's third-largest trading partner, according to the governor.

"Ducey is urging people across the country, especially in Arizona, to call their members of Congress to "demand" ratification of the USMCA."

"But Ducey, who said he has talked with officials from 100 chambers around the country, called a new trade deal important not just for Arizona, but for the other 44 states that trade with Canada or Mexico."

The Arizona Department of Health Services has received a $10.5 million grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, to enhance efforts to improve health outcomes for all women in Arizona.

"The grant will also allow Arizona to join the the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists’ Alliance for Innovation in Maternal Health Initiative, which works to reduce maternal mortality rates.

"According to the United Health Foundation, there are 27.3 deaths per 100,00 live births in Arizona, the 29th-highest in the nation."

Arizona Broadband Office Opens Applications For Grants
The Arizona Rural Broadband Development Grant will be used to support planning and deployment, enabling Arizona communities to more easily access broadband services.

The $3 million in funding was added by Governor Doug Ducey and passed by the Arizona State Legislature in the fiscal year 2020 budget.
