Hi there,
Your first citizenship test question: “Who does a U.S. senator represent?”
No, it’s not all people of their state -- the ONLY acceptable answer has been changed to citizens of their state.
Trump’s discriminatory legacy on immigrant rights is here to stay. On December 1, his administration introduced a new U.S. citizenship test which immigrant advocates have called “more difficult than previous versions in that it is longer, more nuanced and, in some questions, has a tinge of politics.” The new test also doubles the number of oral questions applicants must answer correctly in order to pass.
If you got the first question wrong, you’re just 7 wrong answers away from failing your exam and losing your chance at enjoying the full rights and privileges of being an American citizen.
It’s appalling. Doug Rand, a former immigration policy adviser to President Obama, called the new test “an obvious attempt to throw one more obstacle in front of immigrants legally eligible for U.S. citizenship.” We couldn’t agree more -- but we want to know where you stand. Please, tell us now:
Should the bar to become a U.S. citizen be even higher?
