Friend --
We are all taking a breath right now, and that is a good thing!
Over the last few months we have all given so much of our time and
energy to promoting democracy and justice in our communities. And so,
as we approach the end of the year we encourage you to stay
informed...stay the course...stay home...and renew.
Covid-19 and the impact of the pandemic continue to be top of mind
for many of us. As you are reading this, a strategy for distributing
the vaccine across the country is developing. North Carolina, and the
Triangle specifically, will be receiving and administering
doses of the vaccine soon. While we await the vaccine, we must
remember that many members of our community are in danger of being
evicted from their homes. If you or someone you know needs
help fighting evictions contact (704)
284-7154.
Gov. Cooper’s stay-at-home orders start today, asking
everyone to stay in their homes after 10pm, and to continue wearing a
mask and social distancing. While you prepare for some time
at home, and hopefully some rest, we want to encourage you to enjoy
some great books. Our staff has some recommendations:
Caste - Isabelle Wilkerson
Battling Over Birth: Black Women and the Maternal Health Care
Crisis - Julia Chinyere Oparah
The Purpose of Power - Alicia Garza
So You Want To Talk About Race? - Ijeoma Oluo
Be well. Thank you for supporting our work and have a great
weekend.
