TAKING OATH
In California and elsewhere, several of the successful candidates comprising the Rainbow Wave of 2020 are already being sworn in. In Palm Springs, Christy Holstege takes the reins as the country’s first out bi mayor [[link removed]] . Further south, Todd Gloria was sworn in as San Diego’s first out LGBTQ mayor [[link removed]] as well as the first person of color to hold the position. In addition, Martin Jenkins , who was appointed to the California Supreme Court by Governor Newsom, was sworn in last week, becoming the court’s first out gay Justice [[link removed]] .
TAKING THE LEAD

Last month, announced our support of New York Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney in his bid to become chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. This month, we’re pleased to announce that he won [[link removed]] ! Maloney will be the first out LGBTQ leader of the House Democrats’ campaign arm.
Maine will have its first out gay state House Speaker with the election of Rep. Ryan Fectau , a Victory Fund candidate. He’ll also be the youngest statehouse speaker in the country! Read about Ryan and his agenda for Maine in CNN [[link removed]] .
In Rhode Island, out State Rep. Joe Shekarchi was elected by his caucus to become the next state House Speaker. The Public’s Radio [[link removed]-] reports on the work ahead to unite various factions of the party and heal old political wounds.
Tyler Titus , an out trans member of the Erie School Board, was selected [[link removed]] by his colleagues as Board President.
The New Democrat Coalition [[link removed]-] announced the election of lesbian U.S. Rep. Sharice Davids as Vice Chair.
ICYMI: Both of the incoming freshman LGBTQ members of Congress, Mondaire Jones and Ritchie Torres , were elected to caucus leadership positions. Mondaire [[link removed]] will serve as Freshman Representative to Leadership and Ritchie [[link removed]] will join weekly “crescendo” meetings with Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
