DO NOT FORWARD THIS E-MAIL OR MAKE COPIES

It is critically important to respond in a timely fashion to these alerts because interest in news stories, editorials, etc., quickly fades in just a matter of days.

FYI: You don't necessarily need a subscription to read articles targeted by our Letter Requests. Many newspapers allow a limited number of free visits each month to their pages.

(1) Please respond to this op-ed signed by a multitude of mayors who believe South Bend, IN Mayor Pete Buttigieg knows how to end our federally-created crisis, "For mayors, politics isn't a blood sport: Why we need Pete Buttigieg in the White House"

One word best describes this clueless opinion piece: "Sigh." Here's the nut paragraph: "While Washington has ignored or exacerbated our immigration crisis, Pete created a municipal ID card so that undocumented residents could open bank accounts and fill prescriptions. And because Pete knows that population growth is the key to economic growth, his plan for rural America would provide Community Renewal Visas to bring immigrants to communities in need of revitalization."

Well, OK, the bigger the workforce, the bigger the GDP. No question about that, but, more importantly, isn't the per capita GDP what really counts? How would American workers benefit from bringing in even more foreign workers willing to work for less? Population growth has been a catalyst for the kind of economic growth that has seen inequality rise, wages stagnate, and housing prices soar out of reach for many. More immigration will yield more of the same.

Any realistic discussion about ending our immigration crisis must include meaningful enforcement and acknowledgement that there are limits to the number of people this nation can absorb.

(5) Please - when appropriate - include in any of your letters to newspapers the "report cards" for your members of Congress provided by NumbersUSA:

Congressional staffers each day go through newspapers looking for references to their bosses; the greater the exposure given to the voting records (good as well as bad) of these legislators the more these individuals will feel our eyes on the back of their necks, watching every move they make.

(6) - This is important - These requests present our writers with an opportunity to address their concerns from their own perspective. We want to emphasize that they are intended for participants in this program, plus a few friends, and not for wide distribution. So, please refrain from cc:ing us on your letters-to-the-editor and from talking about the program in public forums.

(7) Let me know if you get a letter published - anywhere - including the publication's name, the date they printed your letter, and the Internet link to it or the text and title as it appeared.
