PFAW Member, As has become increasingly apparent, the New York Times reports that Republicans’ strategy in the Georgia runoff elections is clearly focused on smearing Democratic candidate Rev. Raphael Warnock, who is Black. Republicans are making a last-ditch appeal to racism and the “Old South” status quo by using the exact same attacks – in many cases verbatim – that the Right Wing used to attack Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who preached from the same pulpit that Rev. Warnock now occupies as the senior pastor at Dr. King’s former church. From TV ads to Internet disinformation campaigns to the major campaign rally Donald Trump headlined in Georgia over the weekend, the way Warnock is being targeted reflects the absolute worst of our politics – and we need to do everything we can to make sure Georgia voters REJECT these racist, fear-mongering tactics. The polling is neck-and-neck and your donation will be 300%-MATCHED! Republicans know that if they win in Georgia, they’ll keep control of the Senate and be able to block all the progress we so desperately need in the areas of democracy reform, racial justice, equal rights, public health, and economic opportunity. That’s why they are fighting so hard … and sinking so low. “Radical” … “Socialist” … “Communist” … these descriptions of Rev. Warnock, thrown about wildly by Sen. Kelly Loeffler, Donald Trump, and every Republican involved in the Georgia Senate races, could not be farther from the truth. But, unfortunately, they’re all too familiar. They are the same attacks used not only against Dr. King but against any talented, charismatic Black leader who challenges the status quo. They used the same attacks against Barack Obama and are also using them against Stacey Abrams in Georgia right now, as the state’s most effective progressive organizer. All the extreme attacks on progressives, on Rev. Warnock, and on the other Democratic candidate Jon Ossoff, are also meant to distract voters from the Republican incumbents’ own corruption. Both Loeffler, the most wealthy member of Congress, and David Perdue, the Senate’s most prolific stock trader, have been guilty of egregious conflicts of interest when it comes to their dealings in the stock market, and have been investigated for insider trading and shameless profiteering during the pandemic while their constituents suffered. The vote itself belongs to Georgia but it’s up to people of conscience all across the country to do our part in any way we can to have an impact on these runoff elections. That’s why People For is running ads, mailers, and mobilizing our activists in – and out – of Georgia for calling, texting, and other voter contact programs. But we need you with us … all the way through Election Day on January 5. We only have 4 weeks. All donations to this effort will be 300%-MATCHED, tripling the power of your impact! Please donate as generously as you can right now to win Georgia and flip the Senate!>> Thank you for everything you do. -- Ben Jealous, President
