John,
It's been nine months since COVID became a constant presence in our lives. Here’s our reality today:
Federal inaction during the pandemic has been especially devastating to women -- especially Black, Latinx, and other workers of color -- who have been hit hardest during this crisis, and immigrant workers, who were cruelly excluded from federal relief packages.
Take action today and urge Congress to pass COVID relief and economic recovery that invests in care.
This crisis has already taken so much from so many. And now we are in the third wave of this pandemic -- infections, hospitalizations, and deaths are surging. Millions of workers are already struggling to pay the rent and keep food on the table. Things will only get worse if immediate action isn't taken. Congress is currently negotiating a bipartisan COVID relief package that is so much smaller than what essential workers and their families need -- it doesn't include another round of cash assistance, premium pay or enough funding to help parents afford child care. We need a broad relief package now and an economic recovery package in the new year that invests in a care infrastructure built around families, consumers and workers that will fuel the growth of our economy. We have the opportunity to use this crisis to make long overdue investments to back a stronger, more equitable care system.
It has never been more clear that caregivers and domestic workers are essential to our lives. It's time we not only show them the gratitude they deserve, but also make sure that everyone has access to the care that enables all our families to thrive.
Congress needs to hear from you that now is the time for them to finally step up, do what's right, and deliver COVID relief and economic recovery to workers, their families and for all of us.
Thanks for all you do,
Alana Eichner, Senior Manager of Federal Policy Campaigns
