If you’ve been waiting for a sign that things are really bad economically in the United States, here it is. Americans who never would have contemplated shoplifting before are now stealing food to survive.

It's easy to say, "I'd never do something like that." But what if your kids were hungry and you'd lost your job, and there was nothing left at the food bank? What about then? It's time to really think about the circumstances that put people in this position.
