Helping others this Christmas

For many of us, Christmas is a time of celebration, warmth and fun with friends and family. But for others, it can be a time of hardship and struggle. This year, with the Covid 19 pandemic, it has been even more difficult for many of our residents, which is why coming together to support others is even more important this Christmas.

If youd like to help others less fortunate than you, we have made a list of suggestions of good causes you could support in Nottingham this Christmas. *Shop safely this weekend*

Its been great to see the our local high streets and city centres reopening, with plenty of our smaller and independent businesses being able to open and trade again. As Christmas looms large, we are urging people to shop local and support their small and independent retailers. Visit Nottinghamshire have created a gift guide focusing on what you can buy locally, on the high street and online [ [link removed] ]

Of course its still important to be safe wash your hands, cover your face in crowded areas and keep social distancing but we can all make sure we use local businesses as much as possible to help them rebuild from the coronavirus pandemic.

From popping into a local family-run bakery for a loaf of bread, or buying a quirky gift from an independent shop, by shopping locally people can help local business owners and local communities get back up and running.

**Happy Hanukkah**

Happy Hanukkah to the citys Jewish communities who are celebrating the eight-day wintertime festival of lights. Hannukahs message about the miracle of light, and the indelibility of hope, holds extra resonance today as we pull together to come through this pandemic into better times ahead.

I would like to wish everybody celebrating in Nottingham, peace, love and laughter this holiday and throughout the New Year.

On Monday the Lord of Mayor of Nottingham, will join Rabbi Mendy and Brocha Lent, to light the Menorah in Nottinghams Old Market Square. This year's ceremony is a virtual event. You can watch it online [ [link removed] ] from Monday 14th December at 6.30pm.

And finally...

Were proud to be thanking our key workers in children's homes. Every day key workers like Imran in this video ensure children and young people in care are valued, respected and able to thrive. Throughout Covid-19, our childrens workers helped our vulnerable children with their home schooling and some of our workers even moved in to the residential homes full time to be part of a bubble with the children and young people often at the expense of seeing their own families at home. Our children and young people are incredibly important, they deserve our very best care, and we thank our key workers who support them.
