John,
It’s been a long eight months since Congress passed economic relief — including direct stimulus checks to individuals, loans for small businesses, extra unemployment benefits — for Americans struggling during this absolutely devastating pandemic.
Well, it’s now the middle of December, the pandemic is still ravaging our communities, almost 300,000 have died, and yet, no additional relief has been passed in Washington since. Why?
Two words: Mitch McConnell.
While millions of families and workers are hurting, COVID-19 cases and deaths are rising, and the economy is stalling, McConnell continues to block any and all relief legislation from a vote in the Senate. It’s nothing short of cruel.
And to make it all the more heartless, benefits from the original relief legislation passed in May are set to expire on December 26th. If Republicans fail to come to the bargaining table and pass something, hundreds of thousands of unemployed people and their families will face even worse struggles come the day after Christmas.
It's clear Americans need financial help. Right now.
We can’t let McConnell and the GOP get away with leaving workers and families a lump of coal this holiday season as the Trump Administration sits back and does nothing to help.
Add your name alongside mine to join me in demanding the Senate pass COVID-19 relief for the people they were elected to serve before the year ends.
If we come together and build enough public pressure, we can force Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans to act. Let’s get it done.
