FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE FRIDAY, DECEMBER 11, 2020 NEW DETAILS: WARNOCK'S TIES TO SUSPECTED CHILD ABUSE DEEPER THAN ORIGINALLY KNOWN ATLANTA – Shocking new evidence obtained by the Washington Free Beacon reveals new details about child abuse and other disturbing incidents that occurred at a summer camp run by Raphael Warnock in the early 2000's. According to documents obtained by the Washington Free Beacon, Camp Farthest Out had been cited multiple times by state officials for unreported child abuse allegations and safety-code violations. As the Beacon summarizes, "The records, from the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, paint a picture of an environment where campers were routinely left unsupervised, staffers were not subject to required criminal background checks, and at least five cases of child abuse or neglect were brought against the camp's director, who was ultimately forced to resign." This comes as other questions linger regarding Warnock's involvement with Camp Farthest Out. As first reported by the Baltimore Sun, Raphael Warnock was arrested in 2002 for obstructing a police investigation into suspected child abuse that occurred under his leadership. Warnock was a senior pastor at the Douglas Memorial Community Church in Baltimore, which was running Camp Farthest Out where there was suspected child abuse occurring. When police attempted to investigate the allegations, Warnock and Mark Andre Wainwright, another pastor at the church, obstructed their investigation – and later tried to prevent a camper from talking to the police. Arresting officers from the Child and Sexual Assault Unit had “never encountered resistance like [Warnock’s] at all.” Worse still, a civil lawsuit in the Circuit Court for Baltimore City was filed against both Warnock and Wainwright, as well as Douglas Memorial Community Church of Baltimore, Camp Farthest Out, Corey Willis Ferguson, and two other individuals. The civil suit appears to have been settled in 2005, which is incidentally the same year Warnock left Douglas Memorial Church for Ebenezer Baptist Church. This civil lawsuit raises additional red flags about Warnock’s involvement in the child abuse investigation. Additionally, a crucial detail lies with Warnock’s co-defendant in the case, Corey Ferguson. On Aug. 29, 2002, just three weeks after Warnock’s arrest for obstructing an investigation into alleged child abuse, Ferguson was arrested and charged with second-degree assault. These new details reveal that this situation is much deeper than originally known, and it leaves simple questions that Warnock needs to be asked: Why were the police called to investigate child abuse in the first place? What was Warnock’s knowledge or involvement – if any? Was Warnock aware of the church's documented history of child abuse and health code violations? Who exactly is Corey Ferguson? How are Warnock and Ferguson connected? What does Ferguson’s arrest for assault say about Warnock’s knowledge of suspected abuse (especially given the timeline)? Was this suit settled? If so, why? Under what terms? Why were Warnock, Wainwright, and Ferguson personally all listed as co-defendants? Warnock has refused to answer any questions about what happened during his years supervising Camp Farthest Out – even when he was directly asked to explain the situation in last week's debate.
