Our doctors, nurses, and public health experts are all telling us the same thing: We cannot continue at this pace. Hundreds of thousands of Americans have died from the coronavirus, and hospitals nationwide are overwhelmed with ailing patients. “COVID fatigue” or no, staying at home and behaving responsibly has never been more crucial. That’s why the CDC has been urging Americans “to stay at home and not travel” this holiday season.
Unfortunately, some of our fellow Americans didn’t get the message when it came to Thanksgiving travel. The Associated Press reported that although “vehicle travel in early November was as much as 20% lower than a year earlier,” the numbers “surged around the holiday and peaked on Thanksgiving Day at only about 5% less than the pandemic-free period in 2019, according to StreetLight Data.”
Now Americans are having to make the same decision: To stay home or to travel? If Thanksgiving was any indication, many people are probably making holiday travel plans at this very moment.
