Friend -

Last week, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced a five-year action plan called “Healthy Women, Healthy Pregnancies, Healthy Futures: Action Plan to Improve Maternal Health in America.”

The plan aligns with the efforts we’ve been driving at March for Moms [[link removed]] by addressing the risk factors before and during pregnancy and improving the quality of and access to maternity and postpartum care. It also supports a research agenda to fill gaps in current evidence.

There are three measurable outcomes the plan seeks to reach by 2025:

Reduce the maternal mortality rate by 50%

Reduce low-risk cesarean deliveries by 25%

Achieve blood pressure control in 80% of women with hypertension

This is a step in a long journey to address the maternal health crisis in America - one that must continue to elevate conversations around and address social determinants of health as well as structural systemic racism.

I’m confident that our work continues to not only raise awareness but to bring action and accountability to improving care for mothers and families.

We welcome the national call to action and start of work outlined here - and much more.

To help support our efforts to continue our fight to eliminate preventable maternal deaths, please consider joining us as a sustaining donor. [[link removed]] Even a small monthly contribution can have a big impact for an organization like March for Moms.

With this announcement and upcoming bills in Congress, we expect early next year to be a busy time for maternal health advocates and we need you with us.

Support March for Moms today - and monthly! [[link removed]]

Thank you,
