Dear
JOhn,
Pallavi was 16-years old and on the way to visit
her grandmother when she was kidnapped and gang-raped by 12 young men.
They filmed her attack and threatened to share the video if she told
anyone.
Her attackers didn’t just harm Pallavi. Her father
killed himself, the legal system failed her and her family were forced
to seek protection. Her fight for justice continues.
Sadly, Pallavi’s horrific story is one of many
we’ve recorded against Dalit women and girls in the Haryana region of
India. You can read the full case studies and others in a report we
recently published along with the Swabhiman Society,
Justice Denied: Sexual Violence and
Intersectional Discrimination - Barriers to Accessing Justice for
Dalit Women and Girls in Haryana, India.
A shield for women and
girls
It is only thanks to our supporters that we are
able to document such crimes and to fight against the barriers to
justice that exist. Through the work of our human rights lawyers who
examine these terrible abuses, we are able to advocate to persuade the
authorities to take action.
When we join forces with local women's rights
groups, as we have in Haryana, we create a shield against sexual
violence and harassment, united in support of Pallavi and women and
girls like her around the world. Thank you for helping us
get this far.
We won’t stop fighting for a just world for women
and girls - I hope you’ll stick with us.
With you we can report and fight other injustices
against women. You can help fight unfair legal
systems, discrimination and violence by donating to our year end
appeal.
Your
gift will help women and girls get the support and legal protection
they deserve. Together, we can document abuses, fight unfair
laws and systems and be there for the women and girls who need
us.
Please do consider donating. It is only together
that we can create a just world for women and girls.
In Solidarity,
Katherine Payne Digital Lead Equality
